Music classes

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Shepherd University Department of Music Preparatory Division is accepting applications for the fall 2007 semester.

Students interested in studying woodwinds, brass, percussion, piano, voice, guitar, bass guitar, strings (violin, viola, cello or double bass), theory or jazz improvision should contact Anne Munro at 304-876-5555 or e-mail amunro@shepherd.edu. Instructors set their own weekly lesson fees and teach half-hour and hour lessons. Registration fee is $25 per semester.

Chance McCoy, West Virginia fiddle champion, will offer lessons in traditional fiddle, guitar, mandolin and banjo. Call for information.

Musical Discoveries classes will be offered to preschool students. Preschoolers have the option of attending a Tuesday or Friday morning class. Classes include Baby and Me for 4 months through 18 months, 10 a.m. Tuesdays; Musical Discoveries for 18 months through 3 years are at 9:15 a.m. Tuesdays and 10 a.m. Fridays; and music class for 4- and 5-year-olds, a Dalcroze Eurhythmics-based class 9:15 a.m. Fridays. $156 per semester and runs for 13 weeks beginning Sept. 11.

Learn a Dance in a Day

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Learn the East Coast swing with Steve Silver. 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wood Center Stage Theatre on the second level of Capitol Theatre Center, 159 S. Main St. $50 per person per day. Singles or couples. Hourly breaks. Lunch on your own for 1 hour, 20 minutes.

A Year of Herbs

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - This class is about growing basil, a staple of Italian cooking. 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wilson College, Lortz Hall, Room 110, 1015 Philadelphia Ave. $25 per class. Introduction to Arabic

The course introduces students to the fundamentals of Modern Standard Arabic with some introduction to the Egyptian dialect. It includes grammar, writing Arabic script, sentence structure, and incorporates the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Arabic customs and culture will be emphasized. Art classes

Howard's Art & Frames will offer the following classes which begin the week of Aug. 27. All classes are six weeks long.

· Basic drawing - 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays

· Art for adults - 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays

· Watercolor - 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays

· Advanced drawing - 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays

· Children's art for ages 8 to 15 - 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays. This class costs $60.

Home-school informational open house

FREDERICK, Md. - Educational Alternatives: Home-School Informational Forum and Open House - In conjunction with Homeschool Frederick! and Families Plus!, FCC will present a roundtable discussion and sharing of educational resources for families that home-school their children. 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Frederick Community College Conference Center. Yoga

Sahaya Yoga is offering free classes. This method of meditation helps participants have a balance physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Line-dance lessons

Digital art class
