Man held on sex offense and assault charges

A Hagerstown man charged with first-degree rape and other counts was being held Wednesday night at the Washington County Detention Center after a bond review Tuesday afternoon.

Paul Raymond Burris II, 33, of 1000 E. Noland Drive, also was charged with second-degree rape, first-degree sex offense, first-degree assault, false imprisonment, second-degree sex offense, third-degree sex offense, second-degree assault, fourth-degree sex offense and reckless endangerment

Burris was charged Sunday after a woman told police he had raped her early Saturday, according to documents filed in Washington County District Court.

While the woman performed a sexual act, Burris slapped her about 10 times, charging documents allege. He then sat on her, held three knives to her neck and then made her perform another sexual act while rubbing the knives on her legs, throat and back, according to documents.

Burris then had sexual intercourse with the woman, and at one point stuck the knives in the wall above her head, according to documents. He then took the knives out of the wall and held them to the woman's throat, according to documents prepared by deputies with the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The woman went to the hospital, where deputies observed she had bruises on her left wrist, right wrist and elbow, according to documents. She also had rug burn on her right elbow and a swollen lower lip, according to documents.
