From start to finish

A timeline of Mackenzie Wincovitch's first day of kindergarten Wednesday:

· 7:37 a.m. - Mackenzie arrives at the bus stop, where she waits with about 10 other children. When the bus arrives, she hugs her mother goodbye, and chooses a seat about five rows back.

· 7:58 a.m. - Mackenzie's bus pulls into the Funkstown School for Early Childhood Education lot, and she is one of the first students to stand up. She goes into the school and into her class, which is taught by Lindsay Miles. She spends the next few minutes drawing.

· 8:20 a.m. - School begins. The bell rings and the students recite the Pledge of Allegiance and have a moment of silence.

· 9:30 a.m. - Students learn about the rules of school and take a tour around their new school.

· 10:17 a.m. - Mackenzie and her classmates play outside. She likes the monkey bars the best.

· 11:34 a.m. - Students each get a squirt of hand sanitizer before going to the cafeteria for lunch. Once there, Mackenzie takes out a pink lunch sack, filled with a sandwich, fruit bar, string cheese, juice and an "I love you" note from her mother. After lunch, the students go to recess.

· 12:36 p.m. - After recess, Mackenzie and the other students spend some "quiet time" reading.

· 1:57 p.m. - The students go to meet their new physical education teacher, Donna Wagner. They then meet the teachers they will have for music, art and media.

· 2:50 p.m. - School dismisses, and Mackenzie gets her book bag and a pink tag that shows what bus she rides. When she gets to her bus stop, her mother gives her a big hug.
