Poetry festival takes place in October

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - This year's Sotto Voce Poetry Festival, which is being held in Shepherdstown from Friday, Oct. 5, through Sunday, Oct. 7, will be preceded by a "Sonnets and Sauternes" reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at Christian Caine Jewelers in Shepherdstown's Maddex Square shopping center. Reservations for the reception are due by Friday, Sept. 7.

The reception will feature hors d'oeuvres, desserts, wines and a brief program of poetry readings from 8 to 8:20 p.m. The readings will be by local poets Ethan Fisher, Christa Mastrangelo, Hope Maxwell-Snyder and Ed Zahniser. Admission is $35 per person, and all proceeds will be used to help defray the costs of the festival. To buy tickets or for information, call Hope Maxwell-Snyder at 301-667-1391 or e-mail hms@hbp.com. This year's festival will include a variety of readings, workshops and other events.
