Shorebirds slam Suns

August 22, 2007

SALISBURY, Md. - Billy Rowell's grand slam in the eighth inning put an exclamation point on the Delmarva Shorebirds' 8-1 win over the Hagerstown Suns in South Atlantic League action Tuesday.

The Shorebirds held the Suns to five hits and gave up only Robert Jacobsen's RBI single in the ninth inning - too little, too late for Hagerstown.

Delmarva scored runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings, then iced the game with a five-run eighth, including Rowell's slam and Miguel Abreu's solo shot.

Timothy Bascom (3-2) worked six scoreless innings for the Shorebirds, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Delmarva reliever Brent Allar struck out four in the ninth inning - Hagerstown's Lindon Bond reached base on a strike-three wild pitch.
