Results announced from Horse Council's Open Show Season

The Washington County Horse Council wrapped up its 2007 Open Show Season recently at the Agricultural Education Center.

"We really lucked out on weather this season," said Donna Schmidt, president of the Horse Council. "We have had nice cool days that made showing a pleasure and brought out some new faces."

Riders competed in several divisions.

The Youth English Division champion was Danielle Marshall riding King of Rock with Marie Grossnickle on Mocha as reserve champion. Maggie Rowe on Green Card was the Adult English champion, with Jon Mitchell on Phoebe as reserve champion.

The short stirrup division, which is made up of both English and Western beginning riders under the age of 10, brought out several beginning riders.


Chloe Bellerive on Buttercup and Biz Knight on Stoney Bar Ebony were the champion and reserve champions, respectively. Novice rider Brittany Emigh on Noel was the champion in the novice division - beginning riders over age 10 - and Samantha Burnette on Stotler's Lady was the reserve champion.

The Green Horse Division was particularly competitive with Wen Knight on Flamboyant Star as the champion and a three-way tie for reserve champion between Maggie Rowe on Green Card, Tara Jacques on Cupid is as Cupid Does, and Heather Eichelburger on Sonny's Scarlet Ray.

Record numbers of Western riders competed.

Tarah Jacques on Nehi's Sweet Thunder and Morgan Angle on Fancy That were the champion and reserve champion in the youth division. Michelle Angle on Nifty Bee Breeze and Tammy Castle on I'm Mighty Obvious were the champion and reserve champion in the adult division.

In all three of the Speed Divisions, points for the champion trophies were extremely close, an official said.

Katie Ward on Mickey Who was the Champion Short-Stirrup/Novice Rider and Kiley Slimmer on SV Velvets Chance was the reserve. Marie Grossnickle on Mocha and Danielle Marshall on Trixie's Fancy Bar were the champion and reserve champions, respectively in the Youth Division. Hannah Eccard on Nickers was the Adult Champion with Julie Christman on Scarlet's Mariah in reserve.

First place winners in nondivision classes included Kylee John with Zippers Lil Princess in Under 14 showmanship, Lauren Bogar with A Radical Zippo in Over 14 Showmanship, Tara Jacques with Cupid is as Cupid Does in Mare Halter, Danielle Marshall on King of Rock in Gelding Halter, and Chloe Bellerive on Buttercup in the Beginner over Fences classes.
