New programs to help students make transitions

August 20, 2007

Two new programs will help Washington County Public Schools students make the transition from elementary school to middle school and from middle school to high school, according to a school system press release.

Eighth-grade students who complete training will lead the middle school program for incoming sixth-grade students called Where Everybody Belongs (WEB), according to the release.

An assembly held prior to the first day of school will give incoming and new students a chance to learn about their new school, its programs, activities and challenges from students who already have had those experiences, according to the release.

The Link Crew at the high schools will be a similar group of upperclassmen greeting incoming freshmen with information and insight into high school life, according to the release.

More than 300 students at each level were trained at most schools during the week of Aug. 13, according to Carol Costello, supervisor of alternative programs and student services.
