Free dogwood trees available from foundation

August 20, 2007

Anyone who joins the National Arbor Day Foundation this month will receive 10 free white flowering dogwood trees.

The trees are part of the nonprofit foundation's Trees for America campaign, a program dedicated to environmental stewardship through the planting of trees.

"The white flowering dogwoods will add year-round beauty to homes and neighborhoods," said John Rosenow, Arbor Day Foundation president.

"Dogwoods have showy spring flowers, scarlet autumn foliage and red berries that attract songbirds all winter."

The trees will be shipped postpaid between Oct. 15 and Dec. 10, at the right time for planting.

The 6- to 12-inch trees are guaranteed to grow or they will be replaced free of charge. Planting instructions are enclosed with each shipment of trees.

To receive the free trees, send a $10 membership contribution to Ten Dogwoods, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave., Nebraska City NE 68410, by Aug. 31, or join online at www.arborday.org.
