The issue: The Washington County Board of Education plans to renovate property in downtown Hagerstown to accommodate a school for the performing arts.

What's new: A separate educational foundation has been formed to support the construction and operational costs associated with the establishment of the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts. The foundation is being incorporated as a separate 501(C)3 organization. This allows the foundation to receive grants and individual donations not otherwise available directly to a public school system.

What's next: School system officials are seeking volunteers to serve on the foundation board, especially those with fundraising experience. Those who are interested may call Dale Bannon at 301-766-2937. The next step is to establish a steering committee of community leaders to plan a capital campaign that will kick off this fall.
