Band seeks musicians

BOONSBORO - The New Horizons Band of Hagerstown announces that Dave McCandless has assumed duties as director/conductor.

New members are welcome. The band rehearses from 1 to 3 p.m. Fridays at Mount Zion Mennonite Church in Boonsboro.

Latino fest invites vendors

FREDERICK, Md. - The third annual Frederick Latino Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Frederick Community College.

Booth vendors, businesses and organizations participating in the third annual Frederick Latino Festival must reserve a space by Friday, Aug. 31, to receive a 30-percent discount on the registration fee. Grants are available on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 25 applicants approved. The grants are not available for artists, crafters or food vendors.

Spiritual fair set for college

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Shepherd University will sponsor a spiritual awareness fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29 in the student center, Ram's Den.

The fair will showcase a diverse range of local spiritual and faith communities. This event provides an opportunity for students to become familiar with formal and informal opportunities to explore spirituality in the local community.

Organizations interested in having a table at this event should e-mail Rachael Meads at rmeads@shepherd.edu by Monday, Aug. 20.

Chorale hosts auditions

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Masterworks Chorale will hold auditions through Friday, Aug. 31, for its 2007-08 season. Auditions are open to everyone and consist of vocal exercises. Singers are not required to prepare a piece in advance.

The 100-member vocal ensemble, comprised of Shepherd University vocal students and members from the surrounding community, meets at 7:30 p.m. Mondays in the Frank Arts Center rehearsal hall. This season's concerts will be on Sunday, Nov. 11, Saturday, Dec. 1, Sunday, Dec. 2, and Sunday, May 4.

The first rehearsal will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday Aug. 20, in the rehearsal hall in the Frank Arts Center. Anyone interested in being part of the group should attend. For information, call 304-876-5371 or e-mail ejones04@shepherd.edu.

Orchestra seeks youths

FREDERICK, Md. - The Frederick Regional Youth Orchestra will hold auditions Mondays, Aug. 20 and 27, at Frederick Church of the Brethren. New woodwind, brass, percussion and string players are invited to audition.

FRYO welcomes dedicated upper elementary through high school musicians to audition on Mondays, Aug. 20 or 27, by appointment. There is a $10 non-refundable audition fee. A small number of need-based scholarships are available. Go to www.fryo.org or call 301-473-4140.
