Firm chosen to auction downtown properties

August 18, 2007|By MATTHEW UMSTEAD

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - An Inwood, W.Va., firm was chosen this week by the Berkeley County Commission to auction four properties and adjacent parking areas owned by the county in downtown Martinsburg.

Hockman Auctions LLC was selected to conduct a reserved auction, meaning minimum bids will be required before the county agrees to relinquish the title to the parcels, Berkeley County Administrator Deborah Hammond said Friday.

On the auction block this fall will be buildings at 119 W. King St., 205 Spring St., 212 S. College St., 120 W. John St. and adjacent parking areas.

Hammond said county leaders are hoping to finalize a sale date for late September or early October.

Hockman's proposal to provide auctioning services was selected over Edwards Auction Service, based in Hedgesville, W.Va.
