From the principal

Q. What are your goals for the school year?

A. Continue to meet all expectations of the No Child Left Behind Act and to increase results on all standardized assessments that measure student achievement in a high school setting. I expect to see more students taking the SATs and increasing their scores and I want to see more students enrolled in Advanced Placement classes as well as other rigorous courses.

Q. What will help ensure a successful school year?

A. I envision a school that has highly qualified instructors that deliver effective instruction on a daily basis. Additionally, I envision a school setting where the community respects the goals of the school and all stakeholders work collaboratively to make learning a positive experience.

Q. Can students and staff expect any changes this school year?

A. Students can expect a "hybrid" schedule that will offer additional opportunities to be involved in elective courses and will support a new initiative called Link Crew, which is a transition program to personalize the environment for incoming high school students. Additionally, our technology wing has been renovated over the summer.

Q. What message would you like to send as the school year begins?

A. I want students and parents to look at Smithsburg High School as a school that offers a supportive environment where students can establish personal connections with adult mentors and classmates and grow into responsible young adults.
