From the principal

Q. What are your goals for the school year?

A. Our goal is both simple and complex ? to provide each child with the opportunity to become the best that he or she can be. This will take the involvement of all the resources we can harness. We understand that our students need to excel academically in order to be successful adults. We also recognize the need to encourage the development of self in order to become contributing and productive members of a global society.

Q. What will help ensure a successful school year?

A. The 3 C's are essential to our success: communication, collaboration and commitment. Parents, teachers and community members working together to instill a love of learning in our children will be the key to meeting the challenges of the 2007-08 school year. We invite our local community members and our area businesses to partner with us in this endeavor.

Q. Can students and staff expect any changes this school year?

A. Change is inevitable. A quote I like to use states: "You either improve or you get worse." Having said that, most of our core beliefs will remain in place. We will continue to expect our students to be "3 R Students: respectful, responsible and ready." We feel these behaviors improve the schoolwide climate for learning. There will be new faces, new social functions and new opportunities for growth, but the expectation is that by working together, "We believe we can achieve!"

Q. What message would you like to send as the school year begins?

A. My message to the families of Maugansville is one of reflection and enthusiasm. Many successful students have left this historic school building to go on to do great things. We are proud of those accomplishments but the future beckons. Our students, teachers and families eagerly await the completion of the new Maugansville Elementary School. We will do our best to remember the past and will watch with interest as our state-of-the-art new school comes to fruition for the children of today.
