From the principal

Q. What are your goals for the school year?

A. As always, our No. 1 goal is to improve the academic achievement of our students. We measure that through the results on Advanced Placement tests, the SAT and High School Assessments. Another big goal for this year is to successfully implement our small learning communities and student advisory program. We have been working toward this for three years, and we will be fully implementing the program this year. We will measure the success of the program by improvements in attendance, dropout and pass rates.

Q. What will help ensure a successful school year?

A. Our teachers' data-driven and teamwork approach to instruction, the effort and engagement of our students, and the support of our parents will help ensure a successful school year.

Q. Can students and staff expect any changes this school year?

A. The full implementation of our small learning communities structure and our advisory program are the biggest changes. Also, we are no longer allowing students to bring electronic devices such as iPods, Walkmans and electronic games to school. Those devices distract students and take away from the learning environment and therefore have no place in school.

Q. What message would you like to send as the school year begins?

A. I hope all our students have had an enjoyable summer and are ready for an exciting school year.
