Rouzerfest returns to Red Run Park

August 16, 2007|By JESSICA ZENTMEYER

ROUZERVILLE, Pa. - Rouzerville Business Association will hold its third annual Rouzerfest from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Red Run Park east of Waynesboro. The festival will begin with a mile-and-a-half parade at 9 a.m. from Midvale Road to Red Run Park.

Family-oriented activities will span the event. Nickel bingo will be from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. pony rides, a magician and face painting will be available for children.

Also, more than 25 community craft displays, including quilts, antiques, woodcrafts and jewelry, will be set up. Musical performances will run throughout the day with local country act Tori Anderson & Possum Holler headlining. Raffle tickets cost $1, and prizes will be awarded throughout the event. Ten food venders will provide options such as chicken, pork barbecue and cotton candy.

A car cruise-in will be held across two acres of the park with five classes of competition: street rides from 1949 and older, domestic cars from 1950 to 1976, domestic cars from 1977, and newer, trucks and sport compacts. Registration costs $5 or $10 on Saturday and will end at 1 p.m. For information how to register, call Ben Messler at 717-762-6865.

Admission is free to Rouzerfest. Money from the raffle and donations to Miss Rouzerville contestants will go toward fundraising efforts.

"Five gentlemen dress up like Carol Burnett, dressing like women," Backer said describing the Miss Rouzerville beauty pageant. "They are part of the Cascade American Legion and are in the parade and walk around in the crowd and look for donations. The one with the most money wins. It's clownish, and they do a skit (at Red Run Park), and it's in good taste."

RBA formed in 2004 to unite businesses to do something for the community, said Bob Backer, founding member and active secretary. The present goal for the association is to fund the restorations of Red Run Park and for a Christmas tree to be the centerpiece for the park, Backer said.

Backer said he is expecting more than 5,000 people to come to the festival.
