Pa. YMCAs offer before- and after-school care

August 14, 2007

The Waynesboro and Chambersburg area YMCAs are both offering before and after-school programs for the upcoming school year.

Classes begin Aug. 27 in both districts so parents are encouraged to contact the YMCA soon to ensure space for their children.

The Waynesboro YMCA and the Waynesboro Area School District are combining to offer before and after-school child care in Summitview and Fairview elementary schools.

The program will provide snacks, homework assistance, games, crafts and more from 6:30 a.m. until the start of the school day and from the end of the school day to 6 p.m.

To sign up, call the YMCA at 717-762-6012 or e-mail Child Care Director Tonja Koons at

The Chambersburg YMCA is accepting enrollment in both of the YMCA's state-certified school-age child-care programs for the 2007-08 school year. Daily before and after school care will be offered for students entering first through fifth grades at Hamilton Heights Elementary School.

Hours of operation at Hamilton Heights are 6 to 8 a.m. and 2:40 to 6 p.m. on school days.

The YMCA also will continue to offer before-school care to students who attend Coldbrook, Andrew Buchanan, Sharpe and Falling Spring elementary schools from 6:30 to 8 a.m. at the YMCA.

After-school care will be available for all Chambersburg Area School District students enrolled in first through fifth grades. This service includes bussing from school to the YMCA daily. Care is offered until 6 p.m. for students and minimum enrollment numbers from each school are required for bussing to occur.
