Man held on assault charge

A Hagerstown man charged with first-degree assault and other crimes Aug. 1 after police pursued him in a high-speed chase through Washington County and Franklin County, Pa., was being held Monday night at the Washington County Detention Center in lieu of $200,000 bond.

Anthony David Medeiros, 32, of 137 Fairground Ave., was taken into custody on Interstate 81 in Pennsylvania near the Marion exit about half an hour after police responded to a call for shots fired on Pope Avenue, Sgt. Dave Long of the Hagerstown Police Department told The Herald-Mail.

Medeiros went before Washington County District Judge Ralph H. France for a bond review Monday afternoon.

Medeiros also faces charges of second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, transporting a handgun in a vehicle, using a handgun in the commission of a violent crime, carrying a handgun and malicious destruction of property.

France ordered that Medeiros have no contact with the couple whose house he shot at on Pope Avenue and a woman who was in the vehicle with him during the chase.
