Shelby L. Stotelmyer of Smithsburg, daughter of Tim and Kris Stotelmyer, will attend the National Young Scholars Program in August.

Shelby graduated from Old Forge Elementary, and will attend Smithsburg Middle School in the fall. She was nominated by her principal and teacher.

Shelby is also a cheerleader for Smithsburg Jets and a dancer at My Dance Studio in Smithsburg. She was presented the Presidential Outstanding Academic Excellence Award for her 4.0 grade-point average. Shelby hopes to become a marine biologist or a crime scene investigator.

High-achieving elementary school students will take part in the National Young Scholars Program. Held at the National 4-H Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Md., the program inspires outstanding fourth-, fifth- and sixth- grade students to explore, invent, learn and think creatively.
