August 11, 2007

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Berkeley County man was arraigned Friday on charges after allegedly kicking his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach and selling crack cocaine to a police informant, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.

Jesse Allen Jarvis, 19, was charged with battery and distribution of crack cocaine, according to court records. He was arraigned by Magistrate Jim Humphrey, who set a $105,000 bond.

Court records list Jarvis' address as 5883 Williamsport Pike in Berkeley County and 820 N. High St. in Martinsburg, and other documents indicate he has no fixed address.

The controlled purchase of crack cocaine at the 7-Eleven off Berkeley Station Road and U.S. 11 was orchestrated by the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department on July 18, according to a complaint filed by Sheriff's Deputy Cpl. B.F. Hall.

West Virginia State Police Trooper W.M. Roden said in a complaint he filed with the court that Jarvis' alleged battery of his girlfriend happened Aug. 1.

Roden said he was told the heartbeat of the unborn child was unsteady after the victim was kicked in the stomach and that the physical encounter caused the fetus to bleed.
