'Phantom Tollbooth' takes center stage
Frederick, Md. -Authentic Community Theatre Inc. presents "The Phantom Tollbooth," a theatrical musical production with original script and score based on Norton Juster's 1961 children's classic. Two performances will be held at the Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick on Saturday, Aug. 11, a matinee at 2 p.m. folllowed by a 7 p.m. show.
The Summer Institute for the Arts is a two-week drama, music and technical program for students ages 8 to 18 from a partnership between Authentic Community Theatre Inc. and the Washington County Board of Education. Community volunteers, professionals and students work to create an original work that culminates in a full-stage musical performance. Participants and staff have been working to devise and write "The Phantom Tollbooth" along with creating sets, props, costumes and learning the technical aspects of theater.
"The Phantom Tollbooth" follows a young boy named Milo on an adventure through a magical tollbooth to a strange land where he learns everything is not a waste of time or boring.
