House fire causes $400,000 damage

August 10, 2007

LEITERSBURG - No one was injured Thursday night in a house fire at 14149 Poplar Grove Road but damage to the two-story home was estimated at $400,000 by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's office.

Officials said a neighbor discovered the fire. A cause hasn't been determined.

A rekindle this morning sent Leitersburg firefighters back to the scene where rubble from the 10:23 p.m. fire had apparently reignited.

The owners of the home are George and Nancy Poole, according to Deputy State Fire Marshal Mike Mattingly. Smoke alarms were present but it wasn't known if they activated.

Thursday night firefighters from Leitersburg were joined by personnel from Long Meadow, Smithsburg, Mount Aetna, Maugansville, Franklin and Adams counties, Pa., as well as the Washington County air and rehab units.
