Event helps ID community service options

August 10, 2007

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Greencastle-Antrim High School seniors completed more than 3,500 hours of community service during the 2006-07 school year.

To connect Greencastle-Antrim students with potential service organizations, the high school social studies department is sponsoring the third annual "Community Service Fair" in the cafeteria from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22.

The fair provides information about volunteer opportunities in the community. Organizations will give students ideas on fulfilling the 30-hour graduation requirement.

The service can be completed any time during a student's high school career, but it must be completed by March of the senior year.

Representatives from community organizations will share information on the types of volunteer experiences offered; sign-up sheets and community service forms will be available.

Faculty will be on hand to answer questions.

Nonprofit organizations that have not received an invitation to the fair can contact Ellen Kirkner at 717-597-2186 or kirkner@greencastle.k12.pa.us.
