Franklin Co. burn ban goes into effect Sunday

August 10, 2007

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - All burning will be prohibited in Franklin County starting Sunday morning.

The county commissioners on Thursday enacted a burn ban effective for 30 days or until lifted. It goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. Sunday.

The commissioners' morning meeting was followed by short periods of heavy rain in Franklin County.

"When we pass a burn ban, it doesn't take long for the rain to come," Commissioner Bob Thomas said.

According to the resolution signed by the commissioners, anyone who violates the ban could be fined up to $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second offense and $300 for third and subsequent offenses.
