MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A 45-year-old man entered a no-contest plea Tuesday in Berkeley County Circuit Court to multiple counts of sexually assaulting a woman and a young girl, beginning in 1989.

Edward Michael Bowman, of 4933 Butts Mill Road in Berkeley County, is scheduled to be sentenced by 23rd Judicial Circuit Judge Gray Silver III at 1 p.m. on Oct. 2 for five felony counts stemming from sex-related crimes.

Bowman was named in a 26-count indictment in May after initially being arrested in October 2006 on four felony counts, according to court records.

He entered a guilty plea July 18 to a felony count stemming from a sex crime, according to Berkeley County Circuit Court records.

Berkeley County Assistant Prosecutor Greg Jones said Bowman faces the possibility of prison sentences of 10 to 20 years, 15 to 35 years and three terms of 5 to 15 years.

The adult victim told a Berkeley County Sheriff's Department investigator in January 2006 that she was raped by the accused in 1989 and became pregnant.

The girl told police she was 5 or 6 years old when the accused assaulted her at a Hedgesville, W.Va., area home in 1994, records show.

The girl, now a teenager, told police last year that she was assaulted "almost daily" until 2003, police said.
