EMS responds to 93 calls in July

SMITHSBURG - For the month of July, Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services (SEMS) responded to 93 calls for service, totaling 491 calls for the first half of this year.

A breakdown for the month includes 17 calls within Smithsburg town limits and eight calls to the company's area served by the Leitersburg Volunteer Fire Department.

SEMS personnel handled four calls in their portion of the Mount Aetna Volunteer Fire Department's response area. Mutual-aid calls to other counties included 12 to Frederick County and two to Franklin County.

Smithsburg also handled or assisted on eight calls in Hagerstown's Community Rescue Service's area. Another 10 calls in March were to the Cascade and Pen Mar areas.

Personnel from SEMS took 59 patients to local hospitals during July.

Another patient was treated by SEMS personnel and flown to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore by Maryland State Police helicopter in July.

For the month of June, Smithsburg responded to 105 calls for service.

A breakdown for June includes 24 calls within Smithsburg town limits and 17 calls to the company's area served by the Leitersburg Volunteer Fire Department.

SEMS personnel handled seven calls in their portion of the Mount Aetna Volunteer Fire Department's response area.

Mutual-aid calls to other counties included 17 to Frederick County, Md., and two to Franklin County, Pa.

SEMS also handled or assisted on 10 calls in the response areas of Community Rescue Service, Boonsboro Ambulance and Rescue and the Clear Spring Ambulance Co.

Another seven calls in June were to the Cascade and Pen Mar areas. Personnel from SEMS took 65 patients to area hospitals during June.
