Elvin M. Hege, 85

Elvin M. Hege, 85, a resident of the Mennonite Fellowship Home, 12349 Huyett Lane, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at the home.

Born Oct. 20, 1921, in Washington County, Md., he was the son of the late Henry E. and Naomi H. (Martin) Hege.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Mae (Lehman) Hege, who died March 24, 1993.

He worked as a mason in home building.

He was a member of the Hagerstown Mennonite Fellowship Church.

He is survived by his second wife, Vera Horst Hege, whom he married May 20, 1995; three daughters, Esther Showalter of Greencastle, Pa., Anna Lois Beverly of Eustis, Fla. and Mary Lou Landis of South Boston, Va.; three sons, Clair L. Hege of Stockbridge, Ga., Dr. Darvin L. Hege of Atlanta and Joseph L. Hege of Oviedo, Fla.; two sisters, Retha Strite and Naomi Martin, both of Hagerstown; one brother, Omar Hege of Hagerstown; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by one sister, Rachel Wildeson and one brother, Henry Hege.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Mount Olive Mennonite Church in Maugansville, Md. Ministers Ralph Horst, Nelson Weber and Daniel Halteman will officiate. Burial will be at Hagerstown Mennonite Fellowship Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church and one hour before the service on Friday.

John J. Forbes Jr., 77

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - John J. Forbes Jr., 77, of 115 Landis Ave., died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at Reeders Nursing Home in Boonsboro.

Born July 4, 1930, in Yonkers, N.Y., he was the son of the late John J. Forbes Sr. and Violet Forbes.

He worked for Local 100 Union, as a sheet metal worker. He attained the title of superintendent after more than 20 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria J. Brazier Forbes, whom he married in 1951; two daughters, Kathy A. Gesell of Westminster, Md. and Gloria J. Lowe of Smithsburg; five sons, John J. Forbes III of York, Pa., Ronald W. Forbes and Clifford A. Forbes, both of Baltimore, James G. Forbes of Hampstead, Md., and Robert S. Forbes of Taneytown, Md.; two brothers, Richard F. Brady of Haddonfield, N.J., and Clifford D. Brady of Alexandria, Va.; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home in Waynesboro. The Rev. Harold W. Walton will officiate. Burial will follow in Meadow Branch Cemetery, Westminster.

The family will receive friends Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Thomas W. Collins, 62

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Thomas W. Collins, 62, of Hedgesville, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, at his home.

Born Feb. 4, 1945, in Lee County, Va., he was the son of the late Shirley C. and Eulah Jenkins Collins.

He was a welder and steel erector for Local Union 5 in Washington, D.C.

He was a graduate of Linganore High School.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara M. Cavin Collins; one daughter, Dawn M. Collins-Moore of Swansboro, N.C.; one son, Senior Airman Kevin J. Collins of the U.S. Air Force, currently serving in Balad, Iraq; two sisters, Ellen Reed of Pennsylvania and Wanda Collins of Kearneysville, W.Va.; two brothers, Shirley Collins of Ocean City, Md. and Merle Collins of Littlestown, Pa.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be private.

Linda S. Payne, 47

MARCH 1, 1960-AUG. 6, 2007

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Linda Sue Payne, 47, of West Virginia, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Morgantown.

Born March 1, 1960, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late William Eugene Biser and the late Charlotte Louise Sines.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Rawling Payne Jr. in 1995.

She is survived by one daughter, Lisa M. Payne of Hagerstown; one son, Lester R. Payne III of Hedgesville, W.Va.; one sister, Brenda L. Frye of Frederick, Md.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Diane Biser; grandparents, Opal and Millard Sines; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, at 1:30 p.m at Rose Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Daughtridge will officiate.

The family will receive friends Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home in Hagerstown.
