Money collected to buy newest member of police department

August 07, 2007

BOONSBORO - When Kevin Morgan joined the Boonsboro Police Department early this year, he had just lost his longtime K-9 partner, Sabrina, who had been with Morgan when he was a Washington County Sheriff's deputy and an agent with the Narcotics Task Force.

Now, the Town of Boonsboro Police Department is purchasing a new dog.

Boonsboro Police Chief Jeff Hewett has solicited donations from area businesses as well as private donations.

So far, $5,000 has been raised but another $5,000 is needed to purchase the dog and to pay expenses for Morgan to go to Indiana to bring the new dog, Speedy, to Boonsboro.

In addition to Hewett and Morgan, the Boonsboro Police Department includes Tom Simmons and Charlie Stanford.

For more information on how to donate toward the purchase of the new K-9 officer, contact Hewett at 301-432-6838.
