Hopewell Express transport program set to begin Sept 4

August 06, 2007

After more than two years of planning and collaborative efforts among the Washington County Department of Social Services, Washington County Community Partnership, Washington County Public Transportation Department's County Commuter, Hopewell Road employers and several human-service agencies, the Hopewell Express transportation program is slated to begin Sept. 4.

The program will give Washington County residents transportation opportunities to get to work in the Hopewell Road area by offering round-trip rides from downtown Hagerstown.

Service is on a first-come, first-served basis and preference will be given to those who register through Social Services. Registration is now open. For additional information and to register, call 240-420-2300.

Hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Pickup and drop-off points have been determined. Drivers also will pick up riders along the designated routes as their schedules allow.

The Hopewell Express program is open to the general public and requires no application. For a limited time, there is no fee for the service.

Social Services has begun to register interested riders. Registered riders will be issued an identification sticker for placement on the back of their employer-issued ID badges.
