Erica Hernandez, left, a graduating senior at Clear Spring High School, is presented a check for $1,000 by James W. Plunkett, Worshipful Master, Medairy Lodge No. 140, as the recipient of the Masonic Charities of Maryland Scholarship for Washington County. Hernandez plans to attend Penn State University this fall.

Justin Artz, right, a graduating senior at Williamsport High School, is presented a $500 Medairy Lodge No. 140 scholarship by James W. Plunkett, Worshipful Master of Lodge No. 140. Artz plans to attend Coastal Carolina University this fall.

Plunkett, right, awards a $500 Medairy Lodge No. 140 scholarship to Cassandra M. Burton, a graduating senior at Clear Spring High School. Burton plans to attend either York College or Villa Julie College this fall.

Jonathan Paul Brallier of Chambersburg, Pa., graduated from Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa., May 12 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

The son of Cheryl Dillon, Brallier was a business, organizations and society major. An honors list student, he received the Albert L. Bell Memorial Prize in accounting. He was captain of the varsity track team, worked in the athletics department and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and the Delphic Society, the college's athletic honor society. He is a 2003 graduate of Mercersburg Academy.

The following local students graduated from Antietam Bible College on Saturday, May 19:

Hagerstown resident James Brown graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in pastoral studies.

Needmore, Pa., resident Jason Farris graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Biblical studies.

Mercersburg, Pa., resident Matthew Robinson graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in pastoral studies.

Waynesboro, Pa., resident Michelle Williams graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in church education.

Bonnie Marie Kaas of Myersville, Md., was named to the dean's list at Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pa., for the spring 2007 semester. She is a sophomore majoring in biochemistry/molecular biology.

The following local students graduated from Antietam Biblical Seminary and Graduate School on Saturday, May 19:

Hagerstown resident Imagene Bell graduated with a master's degree in Biblical studies.

Brunswick, Md., resident Philip Graves graduated with a master's degree in Biblical studies.

Waynesboro, Pa., resident William Cooper graduated with a doctor's degree in pastoral studies.

Two Hagerstown students were named to the dean's list at Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, Pa., for the spring 2007 semester.

Natalie Musser is a senior health and occupation major. Elizabeth Surgeon is a senior mathematics-education major.

Shannon Marie Fowkes of Smithsburg was named to the dean's list at Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, N.C., for the spring 2007 semester.

Two area students received degrees in May from Johnson & Wales University.

Samantha Stine of Hagerstown earned a Bachelor of Science degree in culinary arts from the College of Culinary Arts at the Charlotte, N.C., campus.

Patrick Gross of Frederick, Md., earned a Bachelor of Science degree in culinary arts from the College of Culinary Arts at the Providence, R.I., campus.

Andrew R. Metcalf, son of Donald R. and Martha G. Metcalf of Smithsburg, graduated from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, Calif., on June 8 with a Master of Science degree in environmental science and engineering.

A 2000 graduate of Smithsburg High School, Metcalf graduated from Penn State with Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in meteorology. He is continuing his education and doctoral studies in environmental studies at Caltech.

Metcalf is the grandson of Richard and Virginia Metcalf of Frederick, Md., and Wanda Grennell of Ithaca, N.Y.

Joseph L. Metcalf, a 2003 graduate of Smithsburg High School, graduated May 24 from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, Catonsville, Md., with a double major Bachelor of Arts degree in both business technology administration and philosophy.

Metcalf is the son of Donald R. and Martha G. Metcalf of Smithsburg and the grandson of Richard and Virginia Metcalf of Frederick, Md., and Wanda Grennell of Ithaca, N.Y.
