Carl William Sprankle Jr., 57, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, Aug. 4, at College View Center in Frederick, Md., of C.J.D. Brain Disease.

Born Aug. 1, 1950, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Carl W. Sprankle Sr. and Dorothy J. Near Bennett.

He started working at age 14 in New Jersey, where he was raised by his stepmother, Florence.

He proudly and honorably served in the U.S. Army for 11 years.

He was previously employed with Letterkenny Army Depot, Dentler Brothers Furniture, Grand Piano, Western Maryland State Hospital and Wiles Cleaners. He delivered newspapers for The Herald-Mail Co.


He was a member of New Life Christian Ministries.

He was a member of Hagerstown Moose Lodge 2435.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Showe Sprankle, whom he loved and cherished. He was a dedicated father and gave his time to his three children, whom he raised in his home, Heather Sprankle, Tiffany Sprankle and Bryan Sprankle, all of Hagerstown. He is also survived by one daughter, Dimetia Divelbliss of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Renee Wolfe of Hagerstown; two sisters, Carol Sprankle, a twin of Phoenix City, Ala., and Clara Jamison of Hagerstown; two stepbrothers, 11 grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor Kenneth Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided at the cemetery by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

The family will receive friends on Monday at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.
