BOONSBORO - A teenager was hit over the head with a metal pipe and robbed at a bank ATM on Friday, according to a Boonsboro Police Department press release.

A Boonsboro man later was charged with robbing the victim, a 17-year-old boy from Knoxville, Md.

The boy was in a Hagerstown Trust ATM booth at North Main Street and Ford Avenue, police said.

About 7:35 p.m., a man opened the door behind the boy and hit him on the head with a pipe, police said.

The man then put his hand in his pocket and threatened to shoot the boy if he didn't get money, police said.

Police said the boy gave money to the man, who ran east on Ford Avenue.

Kelvin Jay Wade II, 26, of 6 Ford Ave., was charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and theft under $500, police said.

Wade's bail was set at $100,000. He was being held Saturday night in the Washington County Detention Center.

Boonsboro police said the Washington County Sheriff's Department helped in the investigation.
