CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Kathryn McGinnis Kershner, 97, of Charles Town, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at Shenandoah Health Village Center in Charles Town.

Born Dec. 27, 1909, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late James Frederick McGinnis and Bessie (Wolfe) McGinnis.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Claude R. Kershner Sr. He died in 1956.

She retired from Dorbey's Dress Factory in 1976.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

She was a member of Veterans of Foreign War Post 10 Ladies Auxiliary of Hagerstown, RSVP of Washington County and Women of the Moose Chapter 1028 of Charles Town.

She is survived by one daughter, Kathryn K. Jenkins of Middletown; one son, C. Robert Kershner of Charles Town; one half sister, Alice M. M. Head of Hagerstown; three grandsons, one niece and one nephew.


She is preceded in death by two sisters, infant Bessie McGinnis and Evelyn M. Magaha.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. Pastor Richard E. Neal will officiate. Burial will be at Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
