RANSON, W.Va. - V. Madeline "Mattie" Willingham, 75, of Ranson, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born July 16, 1932 in Artie, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ballard Hodge and Nona Armstrong Hodge Bacon.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Norman L. Willingham, in 1985.

She was a daycare provider.

She was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Ranson.

She is survived by two sons, Bill Cabell and Bob Cabell, both of Ranson; three sisters, Rita Palmer of Springfield, Ohio, Jean Williams of Artie and Shelbia Dunbar of Clear Creek, W.Va.; two brothers, Bill Hodge of Mount Lookout, W.Va., and Oran Bacon of Clear Creek; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Laura Thompson, Faye Overton, Marietta Walker and Elma Hodge; and one brother, Edsel Hodge.


Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Artie Church of God. The Rev. Jerry Lawrence will officiate. Burial will be in Hodge Family Cemetery in Artie.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town, W.Va. Visitation also will be Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church.
