Museum raising funds to bring C-119 back to Hagerstown

August 03, 2007

The Hagerstown Aviation Museum is hosting two fundraising events, to continue to raise money to help bring a rare and historic Hagerstown-made aircraft home. The museum was recently donated a 1953 C-119 "Flying Boxcar."

With the return in October 2006 of the last flying C-82 Packet "Flying Boxcar," the Hagerstown Aviation Museum is readying for the return of the Fairchild C-119.

The C-119 is more widely known as the "Flying Boxcar," but the C-82 Packet also has been referred to as a "Flying Boxcar."

The aircraft, which was used in the 1989 movie "Always" starring Richard Dreyfuss, will be undergoing needed maintenance to make the plane flight-ready. The cargo plane is currently mothballed in Wyoming.
