WAYNESBORO, Pa. - A couple lost everything in a Thursday evening fire in the Beartown area of Washington Township, Pa.

"They're devastated because they are a young couple just getting started," said Steve Swope with the Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue Squad.

The fire is under investigation by the Washington Township Police Department, but Swope said it likely started in a bedroom around 5:30 p.m. The home was rented by Cody Aughinbaugh, he said.

A neighbor called 911, and 45 firefighters converged on the scene of the mobile home at 12933 Green Lane off Mentzer Gap Road.

The fire was fully involved by the time the first engine arrived.

"When you're dealing with a mobile home, I'm sorry, they're a timberbox," Swope said.

He compared the mobile home to an oven, saying the fire spread rapidly.

Also on the scene were the Fountaindale, Waynesboro, Mont Alto and New Franklin fire departments as well as an air unit and ambulance personnel. They remained for two hours.

The Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue Squad is compiling a list today of clothing and belongings needed by the couple.
