Fair includes music, antique vehicles and fireworks

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - To bring the community together, Morgan County Extension Service is hosting the seventh annual Morgan County Fair on Saturday, Aug. 4, and on Sunday, Aug. 5.

On the schedule are live music, antique vehicles, fireworks, children's activities, a Civil War encampment and much more.

A major part of the county fair are the exhibits of baked goods, garden produce, crafts and other items produced by local residents. Local 4-H and FFA members submit exhibits to be judged. Members of the public also compete in 14 open divisions. Cindy Smalley, West Virginia University program assistant, said the fair is a celebration of Morgan County and "allows folks to showcase the things they do."

Smalley, a previous best-in-class winner for her begonias, said the exhibits aren't about the monetary prize. First place wins $4. Rather, the fair is focused on bringing the community together for a good time.

"Every year, we have more and more people join and be a part of it," she said.

Events take place at two Berkeley Springs schools - Berkeley Springs High School, 149 Concord Ave., and Widmyer Elementary School, 10 Myers Road.

Highlights of this year's events include a health fair, baked goods auction, quilting demonstrations, a Boy Scout campsite, an adoption clinic by the humane society, a portable sawmill demonstration and a fire department smoke trailer. A Morgan County photo exhibit will be on display throughout the high school building on both days.
