WAYNESBORO, Pa. -Waynesboro Fire Department will host its 39th annual carnival from Monday, Aug. 6, through Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Rotary parking lot behind the fire station at 29 S. Potomac St.

"It's a good time for people to come out and see each other and have a good time," Fire Chief Ronald Flegel said.

Profits from the carnival will help the volunteer fire department maintain its stations and to afford new equipment, Flegel said.

Event Chairman Jim Matthews said he hopes to raise $40,000 from the carnival to fund a new radio system that functions on a higher frequency. Franklin and Washington counties already have upgraded to this system.

The fire department's food trailer will open at 5:30 each night, and games and entertainment will continue until the crowd goes home, Flegel said.

On Tuesday and Thursday, Penn Wood Shows will provide food and family amusement rides, including Ferris wheels (adult and child-sized), swings and kids' rides; to ride until close will cost $14. Saturday's main event is a raffle with monetary prizes - $500 for first place.

Bands will perform two sets each night beginning at 7 p.m. The lineup includes:

· Tall in the Saddle on Monday.

· The Boro Boogie Pickers on Tuesday.

· Karaoke with Ken on Wednesday.

· Center Alley on Thursday.

· Brush Fire on Friday.

· Key Largo Band on Saturday.
