Art show increases cash prize awards

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The deadline for entries in the Adams County Arts Council's fourth annual juried art exhibition, sponsored by America's Art, is Friday, Aug. 17. Members of the Arts Council or Adams County residents are eligible to enter. There is a $25 entry fee.

The 2007 exhibition will be held Friday, Oct. 5, through Sunday, Oct. 7, at Gettysburg Railroad Station. The opening reception will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 5.

New this year is increased prize money for the winning works, a $1,000 best of show award, $750 second prize and a $500 third prize.

Wanna be a zombie?

Maryland-based filmmaker Gary Ugarek will start shooting his second film this fall in Hagerstown. A major portion of the film, tentatively titled "The Escape," will be shot at Hagers-town 10 Cineplex.

The film's director invites area residents to apply to be members of the film's cast of undead extras. To be considered for a zombie extra, e-mail a photo of yourself and contact information to Shooting will begin in late September or early October. Zombie extras are unpaid, but all cast members will be fed.

Ugarek's first film, the zombie-action-horror film "Deadlands: The Rising" was also shot in Maryland and premiered at the Hagerstown 10 in April.

'Dolly' to be dedicated

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - On Sunday, Aug. 5, at 3 p.m., during Old Home Week, Allison-Antrim Museum, 365 S. Ridge Ave., will dedicate the painting "Dolly Harris - Greencastle Heroine." The public is invited.

In honor of the opening of F&M Trust's Greencastle branch bank, the bank commissioned nationally known Civil War artist Ron Lesser to create a painting which depicted the encounter between Dolly Harris and Confederate Gen. George Pickett.

Auditions for 'Couple'

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Blue Ridge Summit Theatre Guild will hold open auditions for Neil Simon's Broadway comedy, "The Odd Couple."

Auditions will be at:

· 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at Greystone Inn, 14882 Charmian Road, Blue Ridge Summit.

· 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, and Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Carroll Valley Golf Resort banquet room, next to Ski Liberty, Sanders Road, Carroll Valley, Pa.

The show will run Friday, Oct. 12, through Saturday, Nov. 3.
