Rotz, DeShong survive cut

VERONA, Pa. - Darryn DeShong and Clayton Rotz, both of Chambersburg, Pa., were the only area players to survive the cut after the second round of the 94th Pennsylvania Amateur Golf Championship on Tuesday.

DeShong (Majestic Ridge Golf Club) posted a 3-over-par 73 and finished at 7-over 147 for a 31st-place tie, while Rotz (Chambersburg Country Club) had a second straight 74 for a 148 and a tie for 35th place. The cut was at 9 over par. The top 40 scores and ties made the cut.

Defending champion Chad Bricker, of Waynesboro, missed the cut with a second-round 75 that left him at 150; Kevin Reiber, of Waynesboro, had a 72 for a 151 total; and Mark Yost, of Chambersburg, had an 83 for 162.

Baker wins Tri-State event

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Derek Baker, of Waynesboro, Pa., took first place in the 16-18 age division of the Tri-State Junior Golf Association event on Monday at Stonebridge Golf Club, shooting a 70.

Liz Breed won the 14-15 age division with a 71 and Peter Denney defeated Christian Grosh in a playoff in the 12-13 age division after each shot 80.

BRIEF



Greencastle parent/player meetings set for Aug. 8

The parent/player meetings for Greencastle-Antrim fall sports will be held Aug. 8 in the middle school cafeteria.

High school sports will meet at 6 p.m. and middle school sports will meet at 7 p.m.

Middle school sports are freshman football and seventh- and eighth-grade field hockey. Cheerleading is exempt from the meetings.
