Hagerstown woman faces first-degree assault charge

A Hagerstown woman was accused Friday of assaulting a man with a knife, Washington County District Court documents show.

Marcella Denise Rhoads, 41, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment in connection with the incident, court records show.

Someone called police Friday at about 1:30 a.m. to report that a woman wielding a knife was chasing a man in the 300 block of North Jonathan Street.

Officers saw a woman with several drops of blood on her shirt screaming profanities. The woman said she had just learned that her boyfriend was having an affair. She had argued with her boyfriend, who punched her in the face, the woman told police.

She grabbed a knife and went after him, and at some point cut him with the knife, she told police.

He ran out of the house and she chased after him. Officers found the man and the knife, which officers saw the woman throw into a grassy area on North Prospect Street.
