Teens hurt in interstate crash

July 31, 2007

WILLIAMSPORT - Three teenagers riding on northbound Interstate 81 were hurt on Monday when their car went off the road and flipped over, police said.

A 15-year-old boy who was a passenger in the front seat was flown to Washington County Hospital in a helicopter, Maryland State Police Trooper T. Brown said.

Brown said the other two occupants were taken by ambulance to the hospital - a 17-year-old girl who was driving and 18-year-old Arnold Echols of Martinsburg, W.Va., who was riding in the back seat.

Brown declined to identify the other two teenagers.

Echols was listed in good condition Monday night, a nursing supervisor said.

Brown said it's not clear why the teenagers' Chevrolet Malibu went off the road and into the median.

The crash happened at about 8:30 p.m. on I-81 near exit 2, he said.
