Ronald Duane Shank, 68, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away, Monday, July 30, 2007, at the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born Wednesday, Aug. 3, 1938, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Paul M. Shank and the late Martha V. Spencer Shank.

He was a 1956 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

He was the owner of Shank's Surge Co. for 35 years, retiring in 2003.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 378, Professional Bowhunters Society, past president of the Hagerstown Chapter of the Isaac Walton League.

He was an instructor of the Maryland Hunter Safety Program. Ron was truly an avid hunter and fisherman enjoying many trips throughout North America.


He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Patricia L. Shank; one son, Duane A. Shank of Emmitsburg, Md.; three stepdaughters, Kristi A. Dommel of Exton, Pa., Nicole R. Norris of Suwannee, Ga., and Shannon M. Garnes of Salisbury, Md.; one sister, Dawn Nease of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; grandson, Justin Shank; granddaughter, Taylor Shank; uncle and aunt, Charles and June Shank of Hagerstown; four stepgrandchildren, several nieces and nephews

Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at 10 a.m. from the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Bishop Joseph H. Yeakel officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home, 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1.

Interment will be in the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
