EMMITSBURG, Md. - Edith Chloe Story Welch, 82, of Emmitsburg, died Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Northampton Manor Nursing Home in Frederick, Md., after a battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born Oct. 1, 1924, in Banner Elk, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Oda Townsend Story.
Her husband, Homer Lee Welch Sr., died in 1989. They were married Dec. 5, 1942.
She and her husband owned and operated Blue Duck Inn in Emmitsburg.
She was a member of Congressional Heights Baptist Church in Rockville, Md. She later attended First Baptist Church in Thurmont, Md., and attended Garfield United Methodist Church in Garfield, Md.
She is survived by her companion, Merle "Jim" Smith; four daughters, Linda Winfield and Audrey Lewis, both of Smithsburg, Jean Boone of Nanuet, N.Y., and Karen Mallow of Germantown, Md.; three sons, Homer Welch Jr. of Chambersburg, Pa., Ronald Welch of Orlando, Fla., and Steven Welch of Emmitsburg; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
