MCCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - J. Preston Mellott, 92, of Great Cove Road, died Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Fulton County Medical Center.

Born April 5, 1915, in Big Cove Tannery, Pa., he was the son of the late Rankin J. and Annabelle Eader Mellott.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha J. Mellott, whom he married April 4, 1939.

Prior to owning and operating his own farm, he, along with his wife, owned and operated Webster Mills General Store.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Big Cove Tannery.

He was a member of Mount Zion Lodge 774, Harrisburg Consistory, Jaffa Temple, and McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co.

He is survived by one daughter, Annabelle Mellott of McConnellsburg; three sisters, Nellie Pearson of Silver Spring, Md., Cleo Donahue of Cobbs Creek, Va., and Sharon Glazier of McConnellsburg; four brothers, Grover Mellott of McConnellsburg, Donald Mellott of Charleston, S.C., Alan Mellott of Kernersville, N.C., and Dale Mellott of Shiremanstown, Pa; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Catharine Keefer Mellott; two sisters, infant Laura Mellott and Martha Painter; and one brother, Alvey Rankin.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Big Cove Tannery. The Rev. Allen Reed will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, McConnellsburg, and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Friends also may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fulton County Medical Center, Cardiac Rehab Department, 216 S. First St., McConnellsburg, PA 17233.
