Grace Academy

Grace Academy recently named Laura Jacques as valedictorian of its 2007 graduating class. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jacques of Smithsburg earned a 3.9 grade-point average.

In addition to earning valedictorian honors, Jacques was selected by the faculty to receive the Joseph E. Michael Christian Character Award, the school's highest recognition. The award is based on the student's all-around Christian character, especially in the areas of humility and service.

Jacques was a member of the school's praise band and was captain of the soccer team. She also completed four college courses through Hagerstown Junior College's ESSENCE program during her senior year, earning a 4.0 GPA. She plans to attend HCC in the fall to study radiography.

Kristin Serafini was named salutatorian for the Class of 2007. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Serafini of Hagerstown earned a 3.8 GPA.

Serafini served Student Government Association president and as captain of the volleyball and basketball teams. She helped to lead the Lady Knights to an undefeated volleyball season and was honored as the Mason Dixon Christian Conference Volleyball Player of the Year in 2006. She was also named to the all-tournament team at the National Association of Christian Athletes Tournament.

In the last two school years, she completed two Distance Learning Classes from Liberty University, Lynchburg, Va., earning dual credit for both high school and college. She plans to attend Liberty and major in elementary education.
