Assistance offered for energy bills

The Washington County Community Action Council Inc. in conjunction with the Office of Home Energy Programs can help pay your heating and electric bills.

With two applications you may be eligible for four different programs:

Maryland Energy Assistance Program - provides heating and assistance grants.

Electric Universal Service Program - provides assistance with electric bills.

Electric Universal Bill Retirement - provides assistance with outstanding balances on electric accounts.

Bay Restoration Fee Hardship Exemption (BRFE) - provides a rebate or exemption of the $30 annual fee to each income eligible homeowner served by a wastewater treatment plant (or in some cases) septic systems.

You do not need a turn-off notice or be off service to apply.

Income eligibility standards, effective July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008

Household size of one, maximum monthly income standards $1,488.96, maximum yearly income standards $17,867.50.

Household size of two, maximum monthly income standards $1,996.46, maximum yearly income standards $23,957.50.

Household size of three, maximum monthly income standards $2,503.96, maximum yearly income standards $30,047.50.

Household size of four, maximum monthly income standards $3,011.46, maximum yearly income standards $36,137.50.

Household size of five, maximum monthly income standards $3,518.96, maximum yearly income standards $42,227.50.

Household size of six, maximum monthly income standards $4,026.46, maximum yearly income standards $48,317.50.

For each additional person, add: maximum monthly income standards $507.50, maximum yearly income standards $6,090.
