Meeting set for tonight on bridge replacement

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - A meeting tonight will allow Fulton County residents to take a look at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's plans for a bridge replacement on U.S. 522.

The displays also will show how traffic will be detoured while the bridge over Licking Creek is replaced, said Monica Farabaugh, a representative of PennDOT.

Residents may share their opinions or concerns about the bridge replacement during the open meeting scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. in the Todd Township municipal building at 2991 Dutch Corner Road.

"If a change needs to be made, it's early enough in the process to make those changes," Farabaugh said.

The bridge, which is crossed by 6,000 vehicles daily, is five miles north of McConnellsburg, Farabaugh said.

"(U.S.) 522 traffic will use a temporary runaround," she said. "We're anticipating a construction season in the summer of 2009."

Although the bridge will be completely replaced, minimal roadway work will be involved, Farabaugh said.

The replacement remains in the preliminary engineering stages.

"At this point, we like to give the public a chance to look at what we're planning to do," Farabaugh said.
