Hagerstown Pony League 14-year-old All-Star teams have advanced to the World Series on 10 different occasions.

Manager Ed Kipe would like to add one more to that list in 2007.

The All-Stars were impressive in winning the sectional tournament last weekend at Funkhouser Park and will begin play in Boardman, Ohio, on Friday in the double-elimination East Regional.

Hagerstown faces Ohio Tri-T National in the tournament opener Friday at 3:30 p.m.

The four-team tournament also includes Struthers, Ohio, and Marietta, Ohio.

The winner of the East Regional will advance to the Zone Tournament in Mecklenburg, N.C., on Aug. 4-6, with the Zone champion reaching the World Series in Washington, Pa.

"Other than host Washington, Hagerstown has more appearances than anyone in the World Series," Kipe said. "It's quite an accomplishment and it would be great to return again."

Kipe likes Hagerstown's chances.

"We have a nice ball club and look forward to the challenge," he said. "I feel we have a good-hitting ballclub and better-than-average pitching."
