Thomas Holliday Hicks, 78, of Hagerstown, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2007, at his home.

Born Feb. 12, 1929, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late George D. and Nellie (Magaha) Hicks.

Mr. Hicks was a graduate of Hagerstown High School and American University in Washington, D.C.

He was a veteran of the Korean War.

He was a teacher in Washington County Public Schools for many years.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Hagerstown, American Legion Post 211 of Funkstown, the Terrapin Club and the Clear Spring Historical Society. He also coached and was involved in local sports for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian R. (Reel) Hicks; one daughter, Elizabeth Hicks-McVicker and husband, Jeffrey T. McVicker, of Hagerstown; one son, Thomas H. Hicks III and wife, Danielle C. Hicks, of Fort Collins, Colo.; four grandchildren, Benjamin H. McVicker, Maddison H. Hicks, Ally M. Hicks and Cassidy E. Hicks; one sister, Manzella Jones; one brother, C.M. Hicks and wife, Marie Hicks; and several nieces and nephews.


Friends will be received Thursday, July 26, 2007, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown.

Private graveside services will be conducted in Rest Haven Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of gifts and flowers, the family requests that friends tell their loved ones how much they love them.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County or Hope House.
