Eaton slips to fourth after 80

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Kim Eaton, the co-leader following the first round of the 84th West Virginia Women's Amateur Championship, fell to fourth place following Wednesday's second round at Cress Creek Golf & Country Club.

Eaton, of Shepherdstown, shared the first-round lead with Brittany Adams, each shooting a 1-under-par 71. However, Eaton's second round went wayward, beginning with a triple bogey on the par-3, 115-yard third hole.

Eaton shot a front-nine 39, and had six bogeys and only one birdie on the back nine, leaving her with an 8-over 80 and a two-round total of 151, seven shots behind Adams, who carded a 73.

Nicole Flood-Sawczyszyn, of Morgantown, had the best round of the tournament, following her opening-round 80 with a 69 to move into second place, one shot ahead of Betty Brandon heading into today's final round.

Karen Hacker-Kinnett, of Shepherdstown, shot a 79 for a 159 total and was in 10th place.

Rose Wayland, of Hedgesville, had a hole-in-one - the second of the tournament. Eaton carded one on Tuesday.

Hose is a Cape Cod All-Star

CAPE COD, Mass. - East Carolina pitcher T.J. Hose, a North Hagerstown graduate, was one of 44 players selected to participate in the 2007 Under Armour Cape League All-Star Game at Wareham's Spillane Field on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Hose is 3-2 for the Bourne Braves with 26 strikeouts. His 1.27 ERA ranks third in the league.

North sports meeting

North Hagerstown High School will hold a preseason sports meeting in the auditorium on Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Attendance is mandatory for athletes and parents who plan to participate in fall sports. Coaches, booster members and administration members will be available to answer questions regarding specific programs.

Rams' Pope named preseason All-American

Shepherd University offensive lineman Ryan Pope was selected to the Consensus Draft.com Preseason Division II All-American Team.

Pope, a first-team selection, earned All-American honors in 2006, along with a place on the second team in Don Hansen's Football Gazette, a spot on the Associated Press Little All-American third team, and an honorable mention selection by D2football.com.
